The
comments of both writers of 3.African and the trilogy
Question: What’s your opinion? Would this album just be written as
David Bowie would have?
Krettis: “The storyboard according to him could be probably
wrong of what David really would do it. But it also might hit the aspect at the
right line. Anyway for me it is a success. The only thing I’m sure am about is
that the song I created on Contamination and now did with Sysiyo on African are
both completely different. Because there’s another writer involved in it. But I
do have the feeling the sort of compositions is in style of sir Bowie. Even my
ex-girlfriend found it hard to believe it was written from my pen instead of
David. The lyrics are so close to his. But maybe that would be not a good
thing, we know he writes different. Both albums were made to be as close as
concept and background to the Outside album. Let’s just hope Bowie don’t calls
me a moron for I fucked up his work.
Sysiyo: I really do not think so.
Thought the diary is pretty much in the same style as the original was, our
style songwriting is so much different than Bowie's, that this cannot really be
said to resemble a Bowie album. Original 1. Outside featured cut-up lyrics etc,
whereas at least I have allways tried to include a part of the story in my
songs. The downside of this is that there is hardly any rime. But as Krettis
said, all artists should have a different style.
Question: Have you discovered something new in
your writing work after writing 2.Contamination/Fi NN Li NG?
Sysiyo: I'm discovering something new about writing all the
time! Fin nl i ng was written in a totally different context than 3. African.
It was simply a collection of stuff I had written before, and some Bowie-tributes.
The writing of African was a much more coherent process. But it is a bit unfair
to compare African with Fin nl i ng, since I wrote an album between those two,
titeled The Moon God, which is still to be published. I allso took a break from
writing African during the summer and started writing another solo album, under
the working title Steamrunner. The Color Song, which doesn't have a proper name
at this point, shows how my songwriting has changed. It's not really the song
itself, but the process was different. The song didn't even start as an African
song, it just ended up that way. Though a lot of credit for that song goes to
Krettis as well.
Krettis: I discovered that the
writing I was doing was good for my own personality in my private life. And now
as I read contamination after 6 months I still ask myself if it really was me
who wrote it. Some of the songs are actually really good. And some I truly find
a disaster. So I think I really discover something after a year or so if I’m
doing something completely else. Maybe it’s a pity, maybe not. But the writing
I’m doing with songs is really something different from the beginning when I
started to write. In this album the songs are more important than the
storyline. In Contamination the storyline was more important. I just was a
little bit to afraid it could go all wrong. And now actually the storyline is
actually written as last. The song are written on the context that we already
knew briefly what in this episode would happen. Only the segues we’ve waited a
long time for. Also working with a other good writer really is a joy. Only the
work process is a bit longer. But you help eachother on the way. And that is an
important thing. Sysiyo and I really give eachother ideas. That’s really
strange, I never met the man, but still I think the result of this album is
like some readers think that our writing is connected to eachother. Okay, both
have a different style of writing. But the errors we see in eachothers work is
really a breathtaking bit. I’m a bit afraid now to write alone all by myself
now… haha.. no that’s a joke.
Question: What’s your favourite song(s) on the African album?
Sysiyo: I honestly have to admit that I not even remember
all the songs on the album... ok, perhaps not. I have to say that I allso
immensely enjoy Dancing with the Blue Girl. It was the first song on which we
really worked together two-way, and it turned out beautifully. Another one of
my favourites is Sacred Girl of Pain. It is so poetic. Sometimes i wonder how
we could have written stuff like that. And though it is only a bonus track, I
love House of Tear. Another example of poetry. But it should be remembered that
as I write this, not all songs have yet been completed. It might be that my
preferences change when our work is really complete.
Krettis: “Dancing with a blue girl” and “Song 2”. The first
one, cause I wrote the biggest part of it. And I think if it would be composed
a mega hit would be. The lyric is so good, you’re dealing with a girl which
doesn’t want you. But she kisses you anyway. That’s the mean thing I believe.
Song 2 is cause of the really weird but funny lyric. It’s really sad when you
read it, but also.. if this would be composed.. Hell what a song it would be.
Question: Will there be in the future more coming out that’s
related to Bowie? Or perhaps there will be another episode of the Nathan Adler
diaries?
Sysiyo: Krettis is really the Nathan Adler guy, so I'm
really not the one to ansver that question. But on a more general level, all of
my work is somehow related to Bowie. The Moon God was inspired by Diamond Dogs
(it will contain Bowie's song We Are The Dead), and the upcoming Steamrunner
has been inspired by Bowie in genral, but allso Kraftwerk. I think that
musically I am heading into a bit different direction right now.
Krettis: This is the last trick I will do right now to
songwriting. I now will lay my concentration of writing columns for formula one
magazines and sites. Cause that’s another great hobby besides Bowie. Oh yeah,
just forgot. I meant songwriting as bowie tribute. I still will write poems and
worked this year on a own album. Still I’m searching for a band who would play
it for me. I love to write stuff, it just keeps me busy. And maybe there will
be a future where I think: ‘hey, lets write another adler diarie’ but I think
it would be more my rules instead of Bowie’s. And there is a change Sysiyo and
I work together again. We already talked about it, due the things we learned
from eachother. But if there were a cooperation it would be started at the
beginning of 2002. I still study you know.
Q: Last Question. If David Bowie would see this, what would
you say to him?
Sysiyo: I'd need a week so that I could say everything I
have to say to Bowie. I'd probably ask him what he thinks about African, and if
he could teach me to sing better and to play saxophone. In reality I'd probably
be so thrilled that couldn’t say a word.
Krettis: You have to pay for it if you want to compose it
*laugh *. No, I would asked him if there ever was a change he would help me to
sing and make my own music. And I would say he must cut his hair back to
earthling style. But I think he heard that several times.

Making the trilogy complete with
other bowiefans was a complete disaster. No one respond. Krettis was on Teenage
Wildlife for a time and there he met a guy called himself Sysiyo. He is very delighted
with his kind of writing and asked if he would work on him writing 3.African.
The two are now working on the third project. Krettis says it now already for
him is a success, working with such a good writer. But according to Sysiyo the
honour is on his side. When this album will brought out, both still don’t know.
Krettis says that will be a shocking one, cause here the murderer will be
shown. And it will be one you wouldn’t expect…

After working three months on the project ‘2.contamination’ the creator
Krettis can finally set a date. In a follow-up of the 1.Outside album, we can
read the next album on the net on the 20th of December. The album will be published in three types:

Reason why
Krettis made this album is to set David Bowie back to work for the album.
Another is: when David doesn’t make the next, Krettis will. Critics say it’s not possible to make the
sequel of 1.Outside. Only David Bowie can do it right, by the way he still has
the material. Fans are positive about it, not that they’ll expect a very
bowiestylish. But the way a fan makes the work of the artist he adores.

On the 7th of June the counter started to reveal the hits that were on
this site. In the end of the month
November we will probably reach the 1000 hits. We’re very proud that in 6
months we reach the 1000th visitor. Ok, there are sites where 1000
visitors a day is normal. But for a site that begins and concentrates on one

The project is called 3.African and will be the third album of the Nathan
Adler Diaries. This time we will need
you!! You will decide how the story with Nathan Adler goes. And who actually
the murder is. So you will uncover ‘the minotaur’. If you think you can discuss
about this, or can make your contribution to us, register now on our
forum. The beginning of the start of this project will be on the 1st
of January. This things you can do on
